Katsucon 2014 marked my 10th consecutive Katsucon, and I wanted to celebrate by throwing myself back into cosplay. I’ve gotten into hooping in the years I’ve been on cosplay hiatus, and I really wanted to do a costume that could incorporate my new hobby, and Tira is the first (and only?) character that came to mind!
I chose this version for both personal aesthetic appeal and ability to actually be hooped in! I definitely overshot my budget because I did NOT research the cost of feathers before I committed, haha. Overall I estimate that I spent about $350-$400 and I put her together in about 2 1/2 weeks.
From head to toe, I cut/pieced together the wig, did my makeup, dyed the feathers, made the gloves, boots, and accessories, drafted the bodysuit pattern (it has BONING and a proper lace-up back!) and built Eiserne Drossel to be light yet still sturdy enough to hoop with, and painted her to look as realistic as possible!
This is definitely the best costume I have made to date, and also one of the most comfortable/durable. I’m really proud of it and can’t wait to wear it again!
